ABOUT

Maira Romanov is a Bulgarian-American photographer based in Los Angeles, California. Her work is rooted in a deep appreciation for analog processes and the quiet power of everyday moments. She earned her degree from Willamette University, where she concentrated in Studio Art and honed both her technical precision and conceptual voice.

While living in Oregon, Maira immersed herself in the tactile practices of film photography and darkroom printing, developing a visual language that balances intimacy, texture, and nostalgia. Influenced by her transnational identity and the landscapes she has called home, her work often explores themes of memory, belonging, and impermanence.

Now based in Southern California, Maira continues to shoot primarily on film, chasing the poetry of place and the subtle ways we inhabit it. She travels frequently, creating bodies of work that reflect the nuances of place and the emotional resonance of light, shadow, and composition. Whether documenting urban environments, rural terrain, or personal narratives, the images she creates invite viewers– to pause, to feel, to remember.

Maira’s practice is driven by curiosity, analog craftsmanship, and a reverence for the ephemeral.
